Things you need to know "before" hiring a contractor!

Key Points to Establish

You will want to establish several key points so that there is no confusion while the work is going on.  Some key points to establish are:

    • When will the job start?

    • What is the expected finish date?

    • What time will they arrive each morning?

    • What time do they expected finish each day?

    • Will work be conducted each day?

    • Can job be completed before (a particular holiday, family event, etc?)

    • Will they work on other projects at the same time as yours or work entirely on your project?

    • Do they have a team or will they subcontract out some of the job?

    • How much time will they spend on supervising the job each day?

    • Cost per square foot?

You should also be prepared for some mess.  Cover things if it will be a dusty job.  It might be efficient to leave things lying where they’ll next be used.  You will want to mention in the contract that the jobsite will be cleaned up at the end of the job.
