Ordinances

Besides state licensing there are laws made by a municipality or other local authorities which are known as ordinances.  Local codes may differ slightly from state codes based on the locality’s preferences. 

If you are hiring an unlicensed contractor you will want to make sure that your project falls within the guidelines of the local ordinances by checking with your local building department.  If you have hired a professional or licensed contractor, they should be able to advise you on whether your project is in compliance with local ordinances.
